Interlaced, Interwoven brings together mosaic artist Mia Schon and weaver Josh Kurtz in a meditation on repetition, brokenness, and wholeness. Their work reflects a quiet truth: beauty emerges piece by piece, stitch by stitch. Through these pieces, they explore intergenerational connection, mirrored light, the role of color in Jewish practice, and art as a form of ritual and repair.

Josh Kurtz is a weaver, educator, and storyteller based in Somerville, MA. He has worked as a teacher and community organizer in Washington, D.C., Romania, and Boston. He is the co-founder of the Jewish Craft School, which is dedicated to preserving and sharing Jewish artistic traditions. His writing has been featured in the Smithsonian Folklife Magazine, the Colorado Review, and several other publications. You can learn more about his weaving studio, Wild Goose Weaving, here at his website. He holds an MDiv from Harvard Divinity School, where he studied Judaism, grief, and ethics. He is honored to be a 2025-2026 Community Creative Fellow, sponsored by the Vilna Shul and CJP.

Mia Schon is a visual artist and mosaicist with Boston and Tel Aviv roots. She transforms broken shards into luminous works of art that tell intergenerational stories. Through her practice, Mia crafts visual narratives that highlight resilience and continuity. Her fellowship project will explore how mosaic can serve as a metaphor for Jewish community: taking fragments of history and experience to build something whole, vibrant, and enduring.
