Havurah on the Hill: Fireside Chat with Local Artists
The Vilna, OneTable and the Jewish Arts Collaborative (JARTS) are teaming up for a special Friday night Shabbat experience for young professionals. Our evening will include spirited services, inspired food and drink, and a fireside chat with social justice artist Nayana LaFond and JARTS Executive Director Laura Mandel. Nayana LaFond is one of the social justice artists whose work is featured at the Be The Change art and activism initiative at Fenway this fall. Nayana will share the meaning and inspiration behind her public art installation.
This event is part of The Vilna's Havurah on the Hill program. Havurah on the Hill is a monthly Friday night Shabbat experience for young professionals.

About Laura Mandel
Laura Conrad Mandel (she/her) is an artist, social entrepreneur, and public art advocate. Before it merged with the Boston Jewish Music Festival to become JArts, Laura directed NOW—the young adult program of the New Center for Arts and Culture in Boston. Laura grew up in Newton, MA, and after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University with a degree in Art and English, Laura worked at the Hillel JUC of Pittsburgh and Hadassah Southern California. She is the Chair of the Council of American Jewish Museums, co-chair of the Lyric Stage Advisory Committee, and serves on the MASSCreative Advisory Council, and the JCRC Boston Council. Laura is the author of the monthly Art D’var blog on JewishBoston.com.
About Nayana LaFond
Nayana LaFond is a professional artist, curator and Artivist living and working in western Massachusetts with her daughter. Nayana attended Greenfield Community College for Fine Art and Massachusetts College of Art for Photography. Nayana has been curating for over 15 years, including as chief curator for the Whitney Center for the Arts. She sits on several boards including Artist Organized Art and is an Advisory member for the Native Youth Empowerment Fund. Nayana’s work has always come from a place of trauma, healing and activism and can be seen in museums and private collections around the world.
