Kabbalat Shabbat with Red Sox Organist Josh Kantor
Friday, February 10, 2012, 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Join Havurah on the Hill for a lay-led, non-denominational Kabbalat Shabbat service in Vilna Shul’s historic sanctuary. Following the service we will hear from guest speaker,Josh Kantor.
A lifelong lover of both music and baseball, Josh Kantor has been the organist since 2003 for the Boston Red Sox, which he considers a dream job. As a teenage pianist in the late 1980s, he attended Shabbat services at the Chicago-area synagogue where American Jewish music pioneer Jeff Klepper was serving as Cantor. Josh was deeply drawn to Cantor Klepper’s music and gladly accepted an invitation to play at the services. Josh moved to Massachusetts in 1990 to attend Brandeis University, where he spent many hours playing in rock bands and theater orchestras, and where he met actors, writers, and musicians with whom he still collaborates.
Over the past several years, Josh has contributed to numerous CD recordings, served as musical director of theater and comedy troupes, and scored a handful of short films. He plays organ, piano, and accordion in the indie-rock band Jim’s Big Ego. In 2011, Josh performed on ESPN SportsCenter broadcasts and played several concerts with the The Baseball Project, a band featuring members of R.E.M., the Dream Syndicate, and the Young Fresh Fellows. In his day-job, he is a library assistant.
Following our speaker, we hope you’ll join us for a kosher buffet dinner.
