Event Description:
Dina Pomeranz is a PhD student in economics at Harvard, specializing in development economics and the analysis of policies aimed at poverty reduction. Her endeavors have led her into many different parts of the world, including Cameroon, Kenya, Israel, Costa Rica and Chile. She will be talking about her work for the organization TAMTAM Africa, which distributes free mosquito nets against malaria and conducts policy oriented research to improve malaria prevention. TAMTAM saves lives in a highly effective, evidence-based manner: The use of a mosquito net reduces child mortality by over 20% and decreases the risk of braindamage to the unborn child. Additionally, the free nets are distributed in a manner that encourages the use of other preventive health measures. Dina got to know TAMTAM first-hand during her field work in Kenya, and was attracted by the evidence-based, results-oriented approach. She will be sharing her experience and the lessons learned in TAMTAM’s work aimed at building bridges between research and practice. You can find out more at http://www.tamtamafrica.org.
